What's new in nourishing your self well as you age

Assess YOUR risk of malnutrition

Reducing your risk or your loved one's risk of malnutrition is a key determinant of staying well, and their risk of falls, loss of valuabl muscle and fat mass. It may also be a prompt to seek an assessment from your GP/ Specialist about the impact of factors such as medication, isolation and low mood on their appetite. see https://www.mna-elderly.com/sites/default/files/2024-10/Self-MNA_AU1.0_eng-USori.pdf for the self assessment form. Use it as a record of you weight and score by saving as a pdf or print with a date

What about protein ? Check out the wonderful resources at Dietitian Connection

As we age our protein needs increase, but our appetite can reduce. This handout also allows you to track your protein intake. Aim for at least 1 gram for every kg that you weigh, but as you age >65 years old, a goal of 1.2 grams for every kg you weigh is even better. So 78 grams of protein spread across the day if you weigh 65 kg.
